Caravaning with Santa San Diego and his family of elves downtown San Diego at 6:00am, with maybe an hour sleep (midnight service that continued in the parking lot for another two hours), it was overwhelming to hear the humbling stories, compassion, kindness, and love of 'sidewalk tarp house' residers.

One 'squater,' Mike with an overwhelming broken heart from the his love of life leaving him, drowned his sorrows in drugs/alcohol, had the most grateful heart for the simplest things such as a smile and a hug. As he shared his story, I asked him about prayer, his humble with hopeful heart said "I prayed all last night." He said, 'yeah' with pure joy and his head down ... at this point, I wondered is he praying for his girl to return, money in the bank, a job, etc ... ya know, the "NORM" according to most who dream their free right of the "American Dream" to come true ... his response, first under his breath, then I asked him again to be sure I heard what I thought I surprisingly heard was ... "Yeah, I prayed 'Happy Birthday Jesus all night, I just kept praying it.

Wanting to drop to my knees with the most grateful words from the heart, he and another guy "Keith," 3 years shy of becoming a lawyer who became homeless from trust the wrong people, all sang "Happy Birthday to Jesus!"

Carrying on a conversation with another group of 'sidewalk tarp house residers,' they explained how their 'street family smart system' works. Each block has maybe 20 'tarp resider’s, who have their leaders for each job to take care of each other ... one leads the tarp tenting which has to be torn down first thing in the morning, another ensures the safety along with the rest, another leads food/drinks, another may lead medical needs, etc... while they all participate in all roles, they appeared to have their chosen leaders ...

They form a "family" among themselves who selflessly look out for each other before themselves. One guy said "ya know, people are a little lost, they will walk around in circles so we go over to them and say "hey, come on, snap out of it," as if a soldier on the front lines of war would pick up his bleeding buddy dying and throw him over his shoulder.

Their beds were made quite neatly, their tarps would cover four to five people, while pouring rain outside, they will play cards, etc... they don't take more then they need, even food; they are very grateful to have what they have and are more then willing to let go to let someone else have their share too.

Another block of ‘tarp resider’s’ explained the struggles with the most amazing considerate heart for the rich … he said “I don’t drink alcohol or used drugs … we can’t get a job because on our application it would look like this … ‘address’ come find us on block ‘such n such’ at tent ‘blank’ … phone # ‘hoping on an answered prayer.’ He said who’s going to hire someone they can’t get a hold of or locate to let them know they got the job? I asked him if the ‘ring leader ’ had a cell phone for the group, would that make it easier? He went on to say ‘local government should have a system setup like Seattle where you have your own message voice mail where I can go to a local payphone and call to check and see if I got a job.” I’m thinking … what a great idea! How do we do this? He also went on to say, out of more concern their appearance had on the rich, … “I know the rich don’t want us here; I mean lets face it, you wouldn’t want a view of a bunch of tarp homes below you would you?” His empathy for the rich was infectious, especially when all he could do was look up with respect; while the rich may look down with disrespect … viewing this perception, I wonder who really has it all?

The ‘tarp house resider’s’ people were so kind and so grateful for the simplest gesture, a conversation, and overwhelmed with the donations the ‘rich’ gave them. I felt incredibly blessed while also feeling a sense of overwhelming guilt.

The problem, there are roughly only 270 beds in the local shelter, and there are over 1000 ‘houseless’ people on the streets. With a strong possibility of a descending economy, there appears to be a strong possibility of a rise in the ‘tarp housing street resider’s.’ Not enough supplies, more families and children on the streets cold, hungry, and living in fear of what will happen next?

On my way home, I couldn’t help but wonder why people could be so mean-spirited to rip people off at the selfish gain of greed for the risk of someone’s life on the streets. On the other hand, my new tarp house buddies taught me a very valuable lesson, we are no different from one another. If we had money, we would give what we felt we could, if we didn’t have money, we appreciate what little we could get. Anything could happened to anyone, trust me – been there done that. Everyone is in there own walk of life, the goal is to survive with caring people who will dedicate their lives to taking care of each other no matter what, even at the risk of their own selfish desires and needs.

Solution: we work together as a team focusing on building each other up to meet each other’s needs. The ‘tarp leaders’ desperately need waterproof jackets, sleeping bags, tarps, one man tents, bungy cords, wind up or solar mini lanterns and flashlights. With your help of donating one or more item, you are keeping a very grateful heart alive. It’s not about them, what they have done, what has been done to them, it’s about keeping love alive without judgement. To give is because we have been given too.

Joining in on the ‘tarp housing system,’ we have our contacts of leaders who are willing to lead their block to ensure everyone is treated fairly. To find out how you can help, whether donating the listed items, volunteer with delivery, or prayers, please contact me at mentorfitness@yahoo.com; or www.facebook.com/dkidd3

Beginning in Faith

Sometimes we make bad choices that could cost us everything in a moments notice. Why do we do this? Most of the time, it's because we suffer from the most simplest form of living, a lack of faith. When we loose sight of being a part of the big picture, we loose sight of ourselves, our purpose, and our lives that we just feel like running from the bad feelings through bad choices. If we are smart enough to realize a double mind that leads to a double road is just an accident bound to happen before it's too late, we will begin notice a life that was built upon freedom from worry, fear, and anxiety. Our eyes are opened and all of our senses tap into another dimension where we notice everything makes sense in every moment. Without faith, we are nothing, we are losers, and feel like we're an accident; but that's not the case. God loves you so much he built you for a greater purpose then you're willing to see. But if you take the time to ask every morning before you start your day, Lord, bless me indeed, please expand my territory, deliver me from evil that I may not cause pain, and may all glory be to you Lord, in Jesus loving name, Amen!" The Prayer of Jabez. Starting here will help you discover the truth of your life. Any struggles that you may be dealing with such as addictions, can be dealt with in one simple way; ask the Lord ... "Lord, if it is your will that I not __________ anymore, than please deliver me from the desire to want it anymore, In Jesus name, Amen." This is the fastest, easiest, cheapest, and most of all, simplest form of delivering yourself from any kind of addiction that holds you back from living miracles meant for you.

You can do this! You CAN have the happiest life, if your willing to seek it by simply asking, God help me to discover the purpose you have for me and my life, and may I be appreciative and glorify you always. In Jesus name, Amen!

The unexplained can define the truth

Having a father as a Rocket Scientist, I grew up admiring his seeking universal explanations. I would wake up nearly every morning at 3am to discover the unknown in the universe with my dad. While my father is genious, the challenge was getting to his heart. If we didn't agree with him or did something he didn't like, we'd hear "you dumbsh-t, what are you doing?" His comments only made me more competitive to discover things he was yet to discover. He was and is an athiest, while I went on a mission to discover the truth that explained all that was to yet to come, and one that made my father wonder about his own intellect. His continuous belittlement, even to this day, has brought me to be very thankful, humble, and yet, resentful of my father.

My father will always be a hero to me, regardless of how he feels; on the otherhand, my father is immature when it comes to the heart of what matters most. Mentally, he may be a genius, but in his heart, he will discover the truth that surpasses all understanding when he owns up to the fact that there is a greater purpose beyond what he himself has discovered, the truth of the heart is to love so much that you'd give your only son to create peace that surpasses all understanding.

My dad and I had not spoken to each other very much over the years. Mainly because of the interference of my step family. And being that my dad is a family man, he caved into his wife's request and abandoned his family so she could have only what she knew her generation life. A man must leave and cleave to his new family. Well, we didn't have a mother, so we were sent to a bording school while my brother was kicked out of the house.

One day, I randomly had lunch with my dad. The Lord spoke in his small still voice. He said, "ask your dad on earth to pray with you;" (bless our meal). Considering the belittlement I received from my dad over the years, the intense debates of spiritual belief differences, and the constant condescing jokes my father said to me about my faith in Christ, I became like Jonah wanting to run into the whale. Well, the Father in heaven reached out with a stronger voice and said "ask you father on earth to pray with you." Hearing the stern but loving encouragement, I reluctantly asked my dad if he would be willing to allow me to pray over our meal. He shockingly said "oh, yeah, sure." I opened up and the Lord spoke through me. Next thing I knew, my dad was asking ME questions about knowing God. "how do you know you are forgiven and how do you know God?" I went on to speak in a way I thought my dad would understand ... relative communication.

I asked my dad if he loved his wife. He said, well ya, of course. I said "prove it!" he said, "Well I do this and that for her." "I said, yes, but you can do that for anyone. Prove how much you love her, such as prove the feeling inside of you. You know you love her, the feeling exist, but prove it!" He realized the realitive thought process and something else needed to be explained that he only knew existed, and it was personal, but he couldn't explain it or prove it.

Then I asked my dad to explain the creation DNA. To this day, he still can't explain it. To the best of my knowledge, no scientist has.

While some things do exist relatively to the eye, undiscovered truth is explained when sought after. It comes down to one simple word, which my dad finally GOT IT!!! Simply put ... ASK!

Confidence

A confident person is someone who loves life with passion, and is sensitive to how their actions affect others.

A confident person doesn't play mind games, they don't need to!

A confident person is someone who wants to bring up your faults with the intention to encourage you, not belittle, devalue or discourage you!

A confident person allows you the right to your own thoughts, feelings, and emotions; does not take them personally, while also setting boundaries for themselves so they don't become your emotional doormat!

It's OK to be human and go through challenges; it's NOT ok to allow these challenges run your relationships.

Drama will happen, its how you handle drama that matters!

Be real, not perfect! Weight loss perceptions can be unhealthy, especially if you having eating disorders.

Fish, especially Salmon, is an excellent choice for protein; however, be careful of where the fish comes from due to mercury concerns on the body. Mercury can cause a number of health problems. Click on this link for more information from the goverment on mercury: http://www.fda.gov/fdac/reprints/mercury.html

Be careful of eating salads while eating out. Salads are fabulous for healthy habits; however, what's in the salad can be a concern such as too much cheese, fatty dressings, and too many sugar or high fat products such as raisins, nuts, etc. While these items are considered healthy, too much of a good thing is not a good thing in the long run.

Moderation is key. Sharing a meal with a buddy saves money, can be fun if you like the same things, and it can be considered half the fat, calories, and sugar.

Celebrity Fitness is almost here!

It's here!
